CANON INFORMATION
CHARACTER NAME: Pharos
CANON: Persona 3
HISTORY: Here
STRENGTHS:
-Friendly: Though he had no previous experience in any kind of interaction at all, Pharos always treated Minako politely, and once they had more time together he grew close with her to the point of being very fond of her and being sad about losing their friendship when he had to go. Though there is never any chance to see him interacting with anyone else and he does have a special connection with Minako, his attitude towards her and learning about her life indicates that while probably incredibly socially awkward, he would have no fear in trying to make new friends and see no reason to be cruel on purpose.
-Curious: Not knowing anything didn't embarrass Pharos at all, and instead he asked questions about a million different things, eager to learn more about the world that his friend lived in and try to understand it for himself. He knows so very little about the world outside of Minako's bedroom that basically everything is new to him, and he clearly has an interest in learning more, in part because he's interested in Minako, and part because he just likes to know things. He very much seems to be the type to crave knowledge in all its forms.
-Able to discuss grand ideas: Pharos had no idea how to talk about every day things, but he was quite capable of talking about larger ideas like fate and death. These are things he has more experience with, but he also is just capable of thinking about things on a more global level than most people. He doesn't necessarily see individuals other than the ones he's close to (which is a problem to be discussed in the flaws section) but can take in the whole and see the bigger picture.
FLAWS:
-Lonely: Pharos literally didn't have anyone to talk to other than Minako, and even then it was only once a month. It was very clear that he did enjoy the time he got to spend with her and wished he would have had more, and had been able to spend more time with people in general. He never complains about his loneliness directly, but the way he emphasis how much having any connection with Minako meant so much to him and how he wishes they could have had more time speaks to the fact that he's never had anyone else.
-Fatalistic: Even though Minako and her friends later fight to change fate, Pharos does not believe that anything anyone does will be able to change the course of what's already written. He did not even consider fighting his fate, even though he wished he could have stayed longer. He was created for a purpose, and even though he'd developed his own feelings, he did not feel he or anyone could deviate from the path they were on.
-Lack of empathy/remorse: Even as he was leaving for the last time, he did not show any remorse for the fate of the world- the only thing he was sad about was the end of his friendship with Minako, valuing the relationship over the many, many human lives that would end. Even when Minako asked more pointed questions about loss on a grander scale, Pharos didn't seem to understand, only reacting when Minako was sad about losing someone in particular, again having that specific connection to her as opposed to seeing everyone else as a person.
CANON ABILITIES: Aside from showing up in the PC’s room in the dead of night, Pharos shows no overt powers during the course of the game. However, when all the separate Shadows are now joined with him he theoretically should be able to transform into Death. Death’s powers are also unknown, but they are probably similar to that of Thanatos, as well as being Nyx's "Harbinger", to call her down to end the world. He is also incapable of being killed by anyone but the PC, and even then it would only kill his form, not Death itself.
AU INFORMATION
AU CHARACTER NAME: Pharos Villenauve
AGE: 8
GRADE: 3rd grade
AU BACKSTORY:
Pharos was born in the Outlands to the major daemon Nyx, but did not stay there for long. Nyx is a calculating daemon who wants to push towards the Nightfall, and she has many ways of doing so, but knowing how the humans were planning on stopping it was an important facet. So she sent the child to the planet, in a town near Daybreak Academy, giving him no knowledge of what he was or what her plans were for him in order to ensure he would not spread it. As he grew older, she would periodically exert her influence on him, but has yet to fully reveal herself and her plans to him.
As such, Pharos has spent his entire life so far in mostly blissful ignorance. He was taken in as an infant by a couple local to Lyon, and has spent his life with them going to school and being a (mostly) normal child. He was doted on by his parents, largely because he had difficulty making friends in school due to his rather... odd outlook on life and often creepy demeanor. However, shortly after turning 8 he began to openly manifest his powers, and his somewhat alarmed parents were contact by Daybreak Academy in order to enroll him.
AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION:
The main difference is that, having been raised by humans, Pharos has a slightly better understanding of how human society works and what things are. He's still insatiably curious about anything and everything, but he's got more background knowledge to work on now. He also does have some people he feels he's had around in the form of his parents, so while he's still pretty lonely at school, he has had times where he knows what it is to be loved and cared for.
Not knowing the fate that is in store for him, Pharos is not particularly fatalistic- yet. Depending on how things evolve in game, he could either subscribe to the same assuredness that Nightfall is destined to happen and there's no stopping it, or he could be encouraged to try and take a little more agency and fight it. He still may or may not develop empathy along with it, having the persistent influence of humanity even with his likely uncaring daemon nature.
RACE: Daemon (though he doesn't know that yet)
SECRET SOCIETY: Pharos has no idea what's going on, he just got here...
POWERS:
Pharos domain is related to shadows. So far all that he's manifested (that he knows of) is being able to hide very effectively, ie melt into shadows, and shooting little blasts of darkness at people. He is also, unknowingly and thanks to some interference from Nyx, casting his own energy in 'shadow,' meaning he's very difficult (but not impossible) to identify as a daemon; anyone who has the ability to sense such things won't get a clear reading off of him, like they're squinting into a dark room to try and identify something in the opposite corner but without any lighting as aid.
Pretty much as long as it involves manipulating shadows, Pharos can probably figure out how to do it. Examples are moving through shadows to get from place to place, causing the shadows of people or animals to animate and follow his bidding (such as fighting by his command or just doing stuff for him), and possibly pulling people's shadows off of them to create a larger shadow- one that could, say, cover a large are and make it look like the Nightfall was happening even though it's really not.
HOUSING: On the same floor as Minako, if possible!
